U.S. Raw Steel Output Climbs 9.2% Year-Over-Year in Late November: AISI Report

The latest weekly update from the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) indicates a notable jump in U.S. raw steel production. For the week ending November 22, 2025, domestic steel mills produced approximately 1.761 million net tons, reflecting a 9.2% increase compared to the same period in 2024. Mill capacity utilization also improved, reaching 76.9%, up from 72.6% in the corresponding week last year.


When measured against the prior week ending November 15, 2025—during which output totaled 1.745 million net tons with a 76.2% utilization rate—production rose slightly by 0.9%.

Regional Production Breakdown

According to the report, steel output varied significantly by region:

  • Southern Region: 804,000 NT (highest contributor)

  • Great Lakes Region: 521,000 NT

  • Midwest: 260,000 NT

  • Northeast: 122,000 NT

  • Western Region: 54,000 NT

Year-to-Date Performance

Adjusted year-to-date production reached 80.734 million net tons as of November 22, 2025, marking a 3.3% increase from the same period in 2024, when output was 78.133 million net tons. Capacity utilization also rose to 77.0%, compared to 75.5% a year earlier.

The continued improvement reflects strong demand trends and stable operating conditions across major steel-producing regions in the United States.
